In a landmark move for sustainable tourism, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB)has joined forces with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance. This historic partnership marks the first time a country has become a Destination Partner of the Alliance, underscoring Belize’s unwavering commitment to environmentally and socially responsible tourism practices.
Belize has consistently shown leadership in sustainable tourism. Initiatives like community-based tourism clusters that support Indigenous communities and the preservation of the Belize Barrier Reef (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) showcase the country’s dedication.
The hospitality industry has a global impact, both economically and environmentally. The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance’s Destination Partner program brings together local, regional, and national tourism organizations around a shared goal: accelerating the transition towards Net Positive Hospitality in the travel and tourism industry.
This collaboration empowers Belize to take part in the inaugural 2024 World Travel Sustainability Awards in September, where Net Positive Hospitality will be in the spotlight. Belize will also engage with leading Environmental and Social Accelerator programs of the Alliance, driving innovation in the hospitality sector and sharing valuable lessons with the world.
Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, warmly welcomes Belize as the first Destination Partner. He praises Belize’s trailblazing approach and notes that this partnership will advance innovative sustainability solutions, setting a benchmark for destinations worldwide.
Commenting on the initiative, the Belizean Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, emphasizes, “Belize is extremely proud to be the first country to join the alliance taking further steps toward our commitment to responsible travel. We look forward to collaborating with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance to drive positive change in the industry.”
