Kids love Belize because of all of the wildlife. Whether it’s watching parrots and monkeys soar through the jungle treetops or seeing exotic wildlife like monkeys and jaguars up close, there’s plenty of eye-opening experiences for kids in Belize. Sites like the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center near Belize City are great for all members of the family to learn about and get close to some of the amazing species that live in the country. The Belize Zoo houses only indigenous animals that were rescued, including Baird’s tapirs (Belize’s national animal), jaguars, toucans, Jabiru storks, and crocodiles.

There are also plenty of exciting adventures for the whole family in Belize. Athletic youngsters love horseback riding through the pristine rainforest, learning about the ancient Maya that used local plants for food and medicine. Kids can also visit butterfly farms where huge groups of the colorful insects are being raised to help restore native populations in Europe. Older kids can also partake in exciting sports like zip lining, kayaking, windsurfing, SUP (stand up paddling), canoeing, white water rafting, and rappelling down cliff faces.

Belize has plenty to offer, even for younger kids. Belize has hundreds of offshore islands, the perfect place to learn and enjoy how to scuba dive and snorkel. The offshore coral reefs are home to a staggering diversity of colorful marine flora and fauna, including anemones, sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, stingrays, and fish. Kids can learn about the importance of coral in the ocean’s ecosystems while learning how to explore the underwater kaleidoscope of life that inhabits the Belize Barrier Reef.

Putting the screens down and getting outside for some fresh air and adventure is a great way for the whole family to have a good time while on vacation. The ancient Maya left behind hundreds of ancient cities, temples, caves, and pyramids, all of which can be explored and enjoyed as an educational experience during your family vacation in Belize.
