Six Senses Belize: New Luxury Retreat & Spa Opening in 2025

Six Senses Belize

Luxury resort and spa group, Six Senses, is set to debut an extraordinary new tropical retreat in Belize. Situated on a stretch of secret beachfront, the resort is expected to open by mid-2025, presenting an unparalleled luxury experience in Central America.

According to Spa Business, the planned Six Senses Belize will house 45 resort villas and 24 overwater residences. These residences will be split between two captivating locales – Secret Beach and a 10-acre private island located approximately two miles away.

At the heart of this resort will be a signature Six Senses Spa and Wellness Village, designed to complement the local environment. Neil Jacobs, Six Senses CEO, states, “Throughout, the emphasis has been placed on sensitive integration of landscaping to connect guests with nature and allow for greater privacy and coveted ‘desert island’ appeal.”

The spa, to be built around the existing mangroves and natural lagoons to the north of the preservation area, will feature an Alchemy Bar, a Holistic Anti-Aging Center, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor treatment areas, a Temazcal lodge, an outdoor yoga pavilion. The wellness programs will highlight natural healing, energy medicine, and traditional Maya practices, offering guests an immersive journey into holistic well-being.

Secret Beach, home to the spa, will be the resort’s primary activity hub. Spread across 18 acres, this area will also feature a mix of day and night amenities, including an Experience Center, organic gardens, a labyrinth, a mushroom hut, a cooking school, a food market, a teens’ club, an outdoor pool, an ice cream parlor, an overwater restaurant, a dive center, and a Cinema Paradiso.

As part of the company’s commitment to sustainability, the landscape will be protected as a natural preservation area during construction. The goal is to preserve the existing flora and fauna and create connections to the island’s unique ecosystem.

In creating the resort and residences, architects from Studio Caban, interior design house Maed Collective, landscape designer Maat Handasa, and sustainability experts XCO2 have collaborated to ensure the resort embodies the local culture and natural resources and exudes a contemporary, casual island vibe.

Buildings are designed to minimize environmental impact, employing renewable wood as the principal material. Modular and prefabricated designs will help reduce on-site construction. With a focus on energy efficiency, buildings will be strategically oriented to maximize passive solar strategies and capture cooling breezes.

Green roofs will provide insulation and thermal mass, while discreet solar panels cover other areas. Natural vegetation along the beach zone will be preserved, and the resort plans to revegetate red mangroves and plant species to further conserve the beach and support local birdlife.

As Jacobs puts it, the design of Six Senses Belize has been inspired by local craft and Belizean life, seeking to “capture the spirit and history of Maya architecture and local heritage. Everything has been done to embody a new generation of travelers, eager to make memories, while preserving the island for future generations.”

This ambitious project, aligning luxury and sustainability, is certainly a landmark addition to look forward to on the global tourism map.
