5 Things You Must Do During Your Next Trip to Belize

Although Belize is smaller than the American state of Vermont, it is packed full of gorgeous natural areas, including pristine offshore islands and lush tropical rainforests.
If you are coming to Belize, here are five must-do activities:
Sail, Kayak, or Paddle the Atolls

The Belize Barrier Reef is a natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to two remote coral atolls, the only atolls on the planet found outside of the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the best ways to explore this gorgeous natural landscape is by sea kayak or stand-up paddleboard. These quiet, motor-less watercraft allow you to explore the rich marine ecosystem of the outer atolls and see diverse animals such as whale sharks, dolphins, and enormous sea turtles.
Snorkeling

Many people compare the waters of Belize to a gigantic aquarium thanks to the incredible diversity of the fish, plant, and marine mammal life found therein. Strapping on a mask and snorkeling gear allows you to explore patch reefs, atolls, and lagoons in order to spot vast schools of tropical fish, nurse sharks, stingrays, and other interesting creatures.
Visit a Red-footed Booby Colony

Belize is home to more than 500 different species of birds, including the red-footed booby. The island of Half Moon Caye is a protected natural area operated by the Belize Audobon Society and is home to more than 4,000 of these magnificent birds.
The red-footed boobies arrive in mid-December and begin to hatch chicks in March. For the next five months, the adult boobies teach their young to fly and hunt fish, a truly spectacular sight to behold.
Island Hopping

Only in Belize can you find the perfect combination of calm waters and uninhabited islands in close proximity, making Belize an ideal location to “island hop” with nothing but a stand-up paddleboard (sometimes abbreviated as SUP).
Visit a Maya Village

Deep in the jungles of southern Belize, many Maya families continue to maintain their traditional ways of life. Visiting these villages allows participants to learn how the Maya live a perfectly self-sustainable lifestyle, building homes, weaving cloth, and making medicine from the natural materials found in the surrounding jungle.
