The news European travelers have been waiting for is official. The Belize Tourism Board has announced new air service from Europe with Discover Airlines, connecting Frankfurt, Germany, to Belize City beginning 16 December 2027, establishing a new gateway for travelers from Germany and connecting European markets.
For a destination that has long required European visitors to route through the United States or Latin America, a direct Frankfurt connection is a genuine milestone. Here is everything travelers need to know about the new service, and why it changes the math on a Belize trip from Europe.
The details: when and how often

The seasonal service will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, from 16 December 2027 through mid April 2028. That window is no accident: it aligns squarely with Belize’s dry season, delivering European travelers into the country’s finest months, when the skies sparkle, the sea is calm, and every tour from the reef to the ruins runs at full tilt. Flights will connect Frankfurt with Belize City, home of Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport, the country’s international hub and the jumping off point for the cayes, the beaches, and the jungle west.
Who is Discover Airlines?

Discover Airlines is the Lufthansa Group’s leisure airline in Germany, flying travelers from Frankfurt and Munich to holiday destinations around the world since the summer of 2021. For Belize bound travelers, the Lufthansa Group connection is the quiet superpower of this announcement: guests benefit from an end to end booking process and seamless transfers at the Frankfurt and Munich hubs as well as at many global destinations of the group and its partner airlines. In practice, that means travelers from across Germany, and from connecting cities throughout Europe, can book through to Belize City on one itinerary, with Frankfurt as the gateway.
Why this matters for Belize

The Belize Tourism Board has made no secret of its push to diversify beyond North American source markets, and this service is the strategy taking flight. Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations, called the new service of strategic importance to Belize’s tourism industry, noting that strengthening Belize’s presence in Europe is a key priority and that the Frankfurt connection opens opportunities to attract more visitors from Germany and across the region, while making it easier for travelers to experience the best of Belize, from the world renowned Barrier Reef and pristine islands to lush rainforests, ancient Maya sites, and rich cultural heritage.
The BTB says it looks forward to working closely with Discover Airlines and tourism industry partners to strengthen Belize’s presence in the European market, enhance connectivity, and drive increased visitation from the region.
What it means for European travelers

Until now, reaching Belize from Europe meant a connection through a US hub, with its ESTA paperwork and bag rechecks, or a routing through Cancun or Central America. The Frankfurt service removes that layer entirely for the winter season: board in Frankfurt, land in Belize City, start the vacation. For German travelers it is a straight shot, and for the rest of Europe, Frankfurt’s position as one of the continent’s great hubs makes the connection easy from dozens of cities. Pair the Thursday and Sunday schedule with Belize’s compact size, and a one week or ten day itinerary covering reef and rainforest suddenly fits European holidays beautifully.
Planning a dry season trip from Europe

The service window is a ready made itinerary prompt. December arrivals land in festive Belize, with the holidays and the start of perfect beach weather. January through March is the heart of the dry season, ideal for first trips spanning the cayes, Placencia, and Cayo. Early April closes the window with hot, dry adventure weather and Easter celebrations. Whichever weeks you choose, the advice for 2027 and 2028 travelers is simple: watch for bookings to open, reserve early on a twice weekly service, and build the trip around both halves of Belize, the Barrier Reef on one side and the Maya west on the other.
