Belize’s runway keeps getting busier. On 26 October 2026, BermudAir’s inaugural nonstop flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, touched down in Belize City, adding another direct connection between Belize and the United States just in time for the winter travel season, and it is only the first of five new BermudAir routes landing by December.
Here is what the new service means for travelers, how Belize welcomed the first flight, and which US cities are next on the map.
A very Belizean welcome

The first arriving passengers got far more than a jet bridge. The Belize Tourism Board and its partners staged a warm Belizean welcome at the airport, and with October being Kriol Heritage Month in Belize, the greeting came with cultural flavor: a musical performance by the Kriol Culture Heritage Brukdown Band, local treats, and a welcome drink courtesy of Travellers Liquor. First impressions matter, and Belize’s first impression came with brukdown rhythms and a rum toast.
A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the occasion, led by Nicole Usher, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations, and Evan Tillett, Director of Tourism, alongside Seth Bailey, Vice President of Commercial, and Andrea Spiegel, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of BermudAir, celebrating the launch and the continued growth of air connectivity between Belize and the United States.
The bigger story: five routes by December

The Fort Lauderdale route is the opening act. BermudAir has scheduled four additional nonstop services to Belize beginning in December 2026: Boston, Massachusetts; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Orlando Sanford, Florida; and St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay, Florida. For travelers in those markets, Belize is about to move from a connection away to a single flight away, right as the dry season delivers the country’s finest weather.
The route map is notable for who it serves. Boston opens a true New England gateway, Raleigh-Durham brings the fast growing North Carolina market aboard, and the two additional Florida airports, Orlando Sanford and St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay, give Central Florida and the Gulf coast their own direct paths south. Add Fort Lauderdale and BermudAir is building a small east coast network with Belize at the end of it.
Why new nonstops matter

Every new nonstop shortens the distance between a daydream and a booking. Direct service means no missed connections, easier travel with kids, and arrival in Belize City with the whole afternoon still ahead, enough time to reach San Pedro by water taxi or San Ignacio by road before dinner. It also deepens Belize’s winter season capacity just as demand peaks, which travelers tend to feel as better fare competition and more schedule flexibility. For a destination whose compact size is its superpower, the flight is the longest part of the trip, and it keeps getting shorter.
Spreading the word
As part of the inaugural activities, the BTB is hosting a group of US media representatives, content creators, and travel advisors, giving them a firsthand run at Belize’s attractions, local experiences, and people to share with audiences across the US east coast. Expect Belize to be showing up on feeds and in travel columns from Boston to Tampa Bay just as those cities gain their own nonstop flights. The timing is not a coincidence. It is a strategy.
Planning your trip on the new routes

For travelers in south Florida, the Fort Lauderdale service is bookable now, and December’s new routes open Belize to four more airports just as high season begins. The playbook for all five: book early, since new routes and peak season both reward planners, and land with an itinerary that uses the head start a nonstop gives you. A week split between the cayes and the Cayo District remains the classic first trip, and the dry season months these routes serve are Belize at its most spectacular.
