The best months for a Belize destination wedding

Couples planning a destination wedding in Belize have one big decision to make before anything else: when. The country’s tropical climate means warm weather year round, but each season brings a different mix of sunshine, crowds and value. On the Placencia Peninsula, Chabil Mar Villas sees couples marry throughout the year, and the right month depends on what matters most to you and your guests.

February through May: the dry season sweet spot

For the most reliable weather, February through May is hard to beat. Rain is at its lowest, skies are clear and the Caribbean is calm and bright. Late afternoon ceremonies on the beach are framed by soft light and steady sea breezes, and outdoor receptions can run well into the night.

March and April are especially popular, so booking a year or more ahead is wise. Couples marrying in spring can also offer guests a rare bonus: from March through June, whale sharks gather at Gladden Spit off Placencia, giving divers in the wedding party a once in a lifetime encounter.

May brings the warmest temperatures of the year, but it also tends to be quieter, with more flexibility on dates.

December and January: festive and cool

Holiday season weddings carry a special energy. December and January bring cooler evenings and lush green landscapes left behind by the fall rains. Occasional cold fronts can bring a passing shower, so a covered backup plan is smart. This is also peak travel season, so guests should book flights and rooms early. New nonstop routes from the US and Canada this winter make it easier for loved ones to join.

June through November: the green season

Belize’s green season runs from June through November. Mornings are often sunny, with rain typically arriving in short afternoon bursts that leave the air fresh and the gardens vivid. Rates are softer, availability is wider and couples often find they have more of the peninsula to themselves.

June and July remain a good choice for couples who want value without giving up much sunshine. September and October are the peak of hurricane season, so couples marrying then should build in flexibility and travel insurance.

Why Placencia

Wherever the calendar lands, Chabil Mar gives couples a setting that feels private yet close to everything the peninsula offers. With 400 feet of private beachfront facing the Caribbean, ceremonies can take place steps from the water, with the private dock and two infinity pools creating natural backdrops for photos at golden hour. Al fresco dining sets the scene for receptions under the stars.

With 19 villas and a honeymoon suite, the resort can host the wedding party in one place, turning a single celebration into a week of shared mornings, snorkeling trips and long dinners by the sea. When the guests head home, the honeymoon suite is ready for the next chapter.

Planning tips

Couples marrying legally in Belize typically need to be in the country for at least three days before applying for a marriage license, so plan arrival dates accordingly. Lock in your date early, especially for spring, and give guests plenty of notice to book flights.
