Barefoot Services of Placencia has made history as the only Belizean company recognized by the Global Tourism Excellence (GTE) Awards, an international program that celebrates the best travel experiences worldwide based solely on verified guest reviews.
Unlike traditional tourism awards, which often rely on applications or paid promotions, the GTE Awards are based entirely on authentic guest feedback from platforms like TripAdvisor and Google. Each year, thousands of businesses are evaluated for consistency, guest satisfaction, and review quality, and only the most exceptional make the cut.

Barefoot Services’ recognition highlights its dedication to outstanding customer service, reliable tours, and personalized experiences, earning it a place among the world’s top-rated travel businesses. The company joins a global list of elite hospitality providers recognized for their unwavering commitment to authenticity and quality.

Founded by Ian and Megs Yearwood, Barefoot Services is a locally owned business known for its private shuttles, adventure tours, and vehicle rentals. From jungle zip-lining and cave tubing to snorkeling the Belize Barrier Reef and exploring ancient Maya sites, the company connects travelers with the best of Belize through comfort, safety, and personal attention.
This latest award builds on a long list of accomplishments for Barefoot Services. In March 2025, Megs Yearwood was recognized by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) as part of its “She Leads, We Celebrate” campaign, honoring women shaping Belize’s tourism industry.
The company’s community engagement also stands out. In August 2025, Barefoot Services teamed up with the Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC) to host the Battle of the Paddles, a community kayak race aimed at promoting awareness of the Placencia Lagoon’s fragile ecosystem. The event fostered environmental education, sustainability, and pride, values that remain central to Barefoot’s mission.
