Belize Welcomes Digital Nomads

belize digital nomads

A seismic shift toward remote work, accelerated in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has led the Belize Tourism Board to launch the ”Work Where You Vacation” package to accommodate Digital Nomads who are not afraid to mix business and pleasure.

In fact, as the BTB terms it Business and Pleasure Blends quite perfectly in Belize and is the best place in the Caribbean to take your laptops, and talents and get down to business. When you think about it, if you have been working remotely from home during the pandemic, then this is no different, you will still be able to work the same 9-5 as you would from home but only this time with a better view, and atmosphere.

The program which will enable you to discover the captivating beauty of Belize, when you log off for the day, is quite convenient for visitors, it included work permits being waved for participants, as well as the wavering of student permits for children of participants. There are also special offers on activities, entertainment, and accommodations through Work Where You Vacation lodging partners.

While there are other destinations that offer similar programs to visitors, the cost of doing business in Belize is relatively low. Accommodations, dining, and general cost of living are affordable, to say the least. What’s more, is that signing up for this package with the Belize Tourism Board is just $500 BZD per adult and $200BZD for children under 18 years of age.

So what’s the process? Well, it’s very simple, interested persons are encouraged to contact the Immigration Department at Tel+(501) 822-3860 or 822-0284. Emails can also be sent at visas@immigration.gov.bz or secretary@immigration.gov.bz. That can take up to several days to get approval. Once it is approved be sure to bring all your necessary travel documents to Belize. Upon arrival at the airport, you need to pay the Work Where You Vacation Fee. That fee entitles you to spend a maximum of 180 days in Belize.

You will also need the following requirements to be legible for the program, show proof of employment outside of Belize (min annual income of USD $75,000 for individuals, USD $100,000 for couples/families). Share a notarized banking reference and statement of account. Supply a clear criminal record (no more than 6 months old), possess a valid passport, and carry a travel insurance policy (min. US $50,000 coverage).
