Invest, Live or Retire in Belize

Just a short flight from the United States, Belize is a small country in Central America with a long Caribbean coastline. With the lowest-density population in the region, Belize is a wonderland of beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and misty mountains. Belize is also the only country in Central America where English is the official language.

Once an isolated backwater, Belize has made tremendous strides since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1981. With a robust judiciary system, a democratic government, and a strong commitment to the environment, Belize is now easily accessible thanks to non-stop flights from United Airlines, Delta, American, and Southwest.

Belize is rapidly becoming a tourist hotspot with double-digit increases year on year. Visitors are attracted to this country thanks to its abundance of untouched nature, beautiful jungles and offshore islands teeming with colorful birds, fragrant flowers, and exotic wildlife. Add in the fact that Belize enjoys year-round balmy weather similar to that in south Florida, and it’s easy to see why so many people have decided to move to the country.

And unlike in other countries in the region, the government of Belize warmly welcomes foreign investors and expats. The government imposes no restrictions on foreigners buying, selling, or renting property, and very low tax rates make investing in Belize a very secure way to protect assets. Belize also imposes no capital gains taxes or estate taxes, while property taxes are assessed at just 1-1.5% of the unimproved value of the land.

Belize’s QRP program also makes it easy for individuals age 45 or older along with their families to live in Belize. The QRP program allows eligible individuals to import all of their personal goods completely duty-free, including cars, boats, and light aircraft.

But what really makes Belize such a popular choice for expats and retirees is the quality of life in the country. Abundant, organic produce, fresh-caught seafood, friendly locals, and a wide variety of exciting activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, and fishing mean that there’s always a good reason to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Add in bird watching, horseback riding, or simply lounging on the beach, and it’s truly no surprise why Belize is an increasingly popular choice for expats wanting to enjoy the good life.

Orchid Bay is the perfect place to invest, live or retire in Belize. Orchid Bay regularly hosts buyer’s tours that include overnight accommodations on the island of Ambergris Caye, a chance to explore the reef, and a complete tour of the community.
