Rumors Hotel is new hideaway in San Ignacio
Situated in the heart of the Maya Civilization, Rumors is a Belizean owned and operated hotel that is the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of San Ignacio Town in western Belize.
Frankie Montero, the General Manager shared with us the following history of the hotel:
Hector Montero is the proprietor and CEO of Rumors Resort Hotel and he is also a professional building contractor. His projects can be traced along all corners of this country and off the mainland. His career development led him to study and work abroad in the USA for a period of time. As a recreational activity there, he would frequent a particular Restaurant and Bar lounge by the name of Rumors in Winter Heaven Florida, back in the mid 80′s.
In the summer of 1995 he set off to layout the foundations of what would open its doors in 1998 to the public as Rumors restaurant and bar on the same premises as his residence and the place he grew up in. The name evidently reflecting that of his favorite recreational spot in his earlier days. It was planned to be a joint venture along with his younger brother who would manage the facility while he continued his construction business. The partnership thrived for a period of time until it broke off in 2000.
The establishment then took on a different function as an events venue, exclusive of food and beverage amenities. It hosted all sorts of celebrations from Christenings, proms, wedding receptions, birthday parties, anniversaries to pageants and conventions. These were occasional events which would fit uninterruptedly with the continual expansion of facilities and the addition of our first seven accommodations. Rumors consequently commenced operation as a guesthouse, offering accommodations without the food and beverage amenities.
Hector’s outstanding skills and craftsmanship in the construction industry took on full swing and became evident in his ever-developing masterpiece – he gradually laid out each piece of it as envisioned right off his mind, with the joint blood and sweat of his sons. The challenge was great as it demanded us to live double lives – our separate jobs in our own field of work and our commitment to the continual development and maintenance of this establishment.
Plans of entering the tourism industry as a resort hotel lead to our most recent expansion projects which include six additional and upgraded rooms, a kiddies playground & built-in swimming pool, and a scenic elevated wooden deck along with fully operational food and beverage facilities and tours desk.
The hotel caters to travelers looking for a tranquil and serene setting and is in close proximity to the major attractions in Cayo like Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, Caracol, ATM Cave, Barton Creek Cave, the Mountain Pine Ridge and even Tikal in Guatemala.
Authentic international and national gourmet dishes are also served at the onsite restaurant. “Rice and Beans with stew chicken, Fry Jacks, Johnny Cakes and pasta dishes are just a few of the many delicious and enjoyable meals that can be ordered at the restaurant,” Montero told us.
“A fully stocked bar can also be found in the premise and at the moment, a fresh water swimming pool is being constructed and should be completed by December,” he said when we asked him about his renovation plans for this year.
“We are a small hotel and we offer friendly and personalized service with great value. We also ensure that all of our guests feel part of our family”, he added.
