Belize Wants to Send You a Postcard | Sunday is World Post Day

Belize Wants to Send You a Postcard

Do you remember that feeling of finding a new postcard from your loved one in your mailbox? A beautiful picture with a handwritten message of sentimental value in the back.

Today, October 9 is World Post Day, a day that celebrates the tradition of sending picture postcards. The tradition, however will soon be forgotten (unfortunately) and totally changed for online chat and stickers.

In celebration of World Post Day, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is running a competition which will last from the World Post Day until the November 9 of this year. The BTB promises to respond to any postcard they receive between World Post Day and November 9 with a handwritten postcard from Belize. And to make the whole thing more interesting, and the people more competitive – there will be a random winner and, of course, a price! But, later about that…

If you never heard about all interesting and beautiful stuff that can be seen and experienced in Belize, this competition might make you explore some information about the country. And maybe some of the information could inspire you to send a postcard to this competition. Belize is a small and beautiful country in Central America with only 8,867 square miles. So if we tell you that in this case, it is an undeniable truth that the best things really come in the smallest packages, you will certainly think that it is a cliche… Belize will prove you that it is not. Belize, with the capital city of Belmopan, a country with an old name British Honduras, is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, and is adjacent to Guatemala and located below Mexico.

The most interesting thing about this country is cultural diversity. It is a beautiful thing to see so many different people – Creoles, Garifunas, Mayas, Mestizos, German-speaking Mennonites, and even expats from North America living in the same place and keeping their cultural traditions and beliefs intact.

The second thing that will convince you to visit the country is the exotic flora and fauna. In Belize, there is a network of national parks with a big amount of different animals. The national animal of Belize is the Baird’s tapir, the national bird is the toucan, the national flower is the black orchid, and the national tree is the mahogany.  And regarding coral reefs, this country has the second in the world (after Australia). The reef is super diverse with more than 100 types of coral and 500 species of tropical fish.

If you like to dive, you will meet paradise beneath the sea surface.
