While the world’s attention is fixed on the bustling ITB Berlin travel trade show, Belize is taking center stage as a champion of both vibrant tourism and environmental responsibility. The dynamic Belizean delegation, representing the breadth of our hospitality industry, is actively showcasing the wonders that draw visitors to our shores. However, Belize’s ITB Berlin presence extends far beyond promotion.
Director of Tourism Evan Tillett ignited a wave of excitement during a major press briefing on March 5th. Firstly, Mr. Tillett joined Justin Cooke, Vice President of the World Travel Awards, to announce Belize as the host nation for the inaugural World Travel Hospitality and Sustainability Awards. This prestigious event, set for September 27, 2024, will spotlight global leaders who successfully merge exceptional hospitality with sustainable practices. Belize’s selection as host underscores its reputation as a pioneer in this vital balance.
The momentous announcements continued as Mr. Tillett revealed Belize’s groundbreaking partnership with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance. As the first destination partner, Belize pledges to implement industry best practices, champion environmental protection, and advocate for socially responsible tourism initiatives. “We recognize the delicate interdependence between tourism and our precious natural resources,” Mr. Tillett emphasized, “This partnership aligns perfectly with Belize’s unwavering commitment to sustainable, community-focused tourism development.”
