
The Belize Tourism Board has proudly announced that the country will serve as the official host for the World Travel Sustainability Awards (WTSA) slated for 2024. This initiative is a new addition to the World Travel Awards program, with a vision of propelling Net Positive Hospitality in the ever-growing sectors of Travel and Tourism.

The launch of the World Travel Sustainability Awards is set to take place in Dubai during COP28. This awards program is slated to introduce over 40 novel categories. To ensure the success and credibility of the awards, the Belize Tourism Board and the WTA are forging strong ties with influential and reliable partners who will lend their expertise in framing the award’s best practices, norms, and categories.
Anthony Mahler, Belize’s Minister of Tourism, expressed his elation over the announcement, emphasizing Belize’s commitment to sustainable tourism. He shed light on the country’s initiatives, like the Maya Forest Corridor which champions the conservation of Jaguars in Central America, and the emphasis on the development of community-centric tourism hubs that highlight the preservation of Indigenous Communities.
The World Travel Awards is a benchmark of excellence in the global tourism sector, lauding pioneers in the tourism, airline, hotel, and hospitality industries globally. Garnering votes from over 2.3 million industry professionals hailing from 141 countries, the WTA holds considerable sway in the industry. In its new role as the host for WTSA, Belize is geared to play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable practices in hospitality, emphasizing local community welfare, and environmental stewardship, and fostering positive tourism growth.
