Southwest Airlines’ Houston-to-Belize City Route is Ready for Takeoff
It’s always a grand occasion when an airline carrier decides a route is so profitable, it would be foolish not to expand into that market–which is exactly what U.S. carrier Southwest Airlines is doing in a matter of weeks when direct flights to Belize will become as commonplace as green season showers.
This airline knows a thing or two about how to service a new route, so if you live in North America and like to vacation in Belize, these direct flights originating in Houston should get your immediate attention. If you’re a thrifty soul, more competition may even encourage special deals from Southwest and competitors.
Of course, if you already live in a thriving ex-pat community like Orchid Bay and you return home to see friends, family and the grandkids, having new daily routes available to you could change the number of return trips you take each year, and in case you’ve talked northern friends into considering a move to Belize, you’ll have more ammunition to build your case.
How did this all come about? Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly delivered the big news in May: As of October 15, 2015, flights to Belize City from Houston and return will be instituted. The new route is part of the airline’s goal to spread its wings throughout the western hemisphere.
To launch the new Belize route, Southwest staged a Beach Bash press conference to make the big announcement. True, CEO Kelly wore a suit and tie rather than swim trunks, probably because so many dignitaries were on hand for the event, including Director of Tourism Mrs. Karen Bevans, Chairman of the Board Dr. Carla Barnett, Director of Marketing Ms. Karen Pike and representatives of Tropic Air and the Belize Airport Concession.
What does this route addition mean for you? At long last, you can reach Belize without having to deal with layovers when you could be sunning yourself instead. If you’re already a member of the Southwest Airlines frequent flyer program or you just prefer this liner over others, count on the same perks you enjoy every time you fly this carrier: Up to 50 pounds of luggage accompanies you at no charge and if something comes up before your scheduled departure date from Houston, there’s no charge to change your ticket if you meet airline criteria.
If you live in Belize and want to book a flight to Houston from Belize City, no worries. Those planes will be ready to return to Houston as soon as U.S. originating passengers disembark and planes are refueled, but since the carrier isn’t opening a ticket agency in Belize, use the Internet to make your arrangements from the comfort of your home by visiting http://www.southwest.com/.
By the way, accommodation costs remain low in Belize during the month of October, so if you need an excuse try your hand at snorkeling or scuba diving during the off season or you long to see more colorful birds than you have experienced in your lifetime, you can thank Southwest Air for making their exciting announcement about the October 15th start date of this eagerly-awaited service.
