Sun Country Airlines Commences Seasonal Flights to Belize

It’s the New Kid in Town: Sun Country Airlines Launches Seasonal Belize Flights

You’re not imagining things if you notice that traffic at Belize’s Philip Goldson International Airport is busier than ever. Sun Country Airlines, a Minnesota-based carrier, is now ferrying northerners to Belize every Saturday until April 2019, so frozen snowbirds in the Midwest can thaw out among the spectacular array of birds who make their home in this Caribbean paradise.

Until Sun Country recently joined the ranks of international carriers serving Belize, runways have been busily hosting some of the world’s biggest airline companies: Westjet, Air Canada, American, United, SouthWest and Copa. From jets to puddle jumpers, getting to and from Belize has not only gotten easier but increased service by more providers gives flyers more flight options to suit their time schedules, not those of the few airlines that once serviced Belize.

It’s hard to know who’s most excited about Sun Country’s arrival: sun-starved Minnesotans or the Belize Tourism Board’s Karen Pike. It’s her job to track airline route additions to Belize, and she says that the reason so many carriers are increasing their flights has to do with the fact that it’s become such a hot destination thanks to recommendations from the world’s top travel magazines.

Pike isn’t giving secrets away when she mentions the fact that three new airlines began flying to Belize in 2018 and that more carriers will join the party in 2019, but it’s no mystery why this increase has come about. Affordability, hospitality and Mother Nature all contribute to the nation’s burgeoning tourist trade and with every landing, new converts are born.

If you’ve been putting off a Belize visit because you’re a Sun Country frequent flyer, you no longer have an excuse. Awaiting you are Maya ruins, jungle treks, delicious food, warm sun and friendly English-speaking Belizeans.

Book any of the Saturday round-trip Sun Country runs scheduled between December 22, 2018 and April 20, 2019. Need more incentive? Thaw your fingers, visit https://www.suncountry.com/.
