What To Pack For Your Winter Trip To Belize

What To Pack For Your Winter Trip To Belize

Winter in Belize is a lot different from winter in most other places. That means you can ditch the parka and snowshoes and instead focus more on swimsuits and short-sleeved shirts. Fundamentally, you can pack for your Belize vacation like you would any tropical vacation — but if you need more help, here’s what you need to know.

Clothing

Winter is actually Belize’s dry season. Temperatures average around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the skies are mostly bright and sunny all day long. Rainfall is infrequent in the winter months, but you can generally expect at least a shower a week. That means that bringing a light raincoat is essential, but that precipitation will most commonly be experienced through the humidity it produces. Whether you’re going to be in the interior or along the beach, be sure to bring lightweight clothes, and be generous with how much you pack unless you want to regularly find yourself having to do laundry. Depending on whether you plan on exploring the jungle or other natural reserves, you may want to pack some sturdier long pants and appropriately rugged boots as well.

Essentials

While it’s unlikely you’ll have a serious issue in Belize, there are some simple protective measures you should always take when traveling overseas. Travel insurance is a must, and you might want to consider bringing activated charcoal or an antacid if you find yourself having digestive issues when eating new or spicy foods. Waterproof cases for your phone and your wallet are important too, but doubly so if you’re going to spend most of your time on or around the Caribbean Sea. Sunscreen is a necessity throughout the country, but be especially sure to select environmentally friendly reef-safe sunscreen if you’re going to be out on the waters.

Electronics

While Belize lags behind most other countries in the Caribbean in terms of internet access, most resorts should have at least semi-reliable Wi-Fi networks. Unfortunately, that doesn’t extend outside of the resort properties, and it’s often going to not match the sort of connectivity you can expect in America. If you plan on using your internet outside of a resort that you trust, you might want to invest in a VPN — or virtual private network — service for your online security. Fortunately, Belize uses the same power outlets as the United States, so plenty of travelers won’t need to worry about investing in converters. If you need to catch up on company correspondence or check your email, chances are that you can. But you’ll find yourself feeling less frustrated if you generally treat the trip as an opportunity to unplug and reconnect with yourself.
