Following Simone Biles’s announcement that she had said ”yes” to the big question and was swapping in those Olympic medals for a dazzling diamond ring, the big question is whether she will be following through with a promise made to her family that she would tie the knot in Belize.
In December of last year, Nellie Biles, the mother of the 24-year-old US gymnastic star and seven-time Olympic medalist, who also holds dual citizenship with Belize was quoted as telling Essentially Sport that, ”Simone said, when she gets married, it’s going to be in Belize.”
While Nellie might have essentially let the cat out of the bag too soon by disclosing the possible destination for Biles’s dream wedding, the announcement perhaps did not come as a major surprise to any of Biles’ 6.8 million Instagram followers who have been keeping tabs on her ever-growing attraction for Belize. Biles’s last known visit to Belize was over the Thanksgiving weekend, where she had spent the time basking in some Belizean sunshine with her now-fiancee, Jonathan Owens, and her family at the award-winning Naia Resort and Spa in Placencia.
On Tuesday, February 15th, Instagram became flooded with congratulation for the couple when Biles had burst the bubble, by revealing to her fans and followers that she had said the ”Easiest Yes,” to her boyfriend of two years, who is a safety for the Houston Texans when he had proposed to her on Valentines Day.
Biles, wrote, ”I cant wait to spend forever and ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more. Let’s get married FIANCÉ!” The post was accompanied by pictures of the dreamy couple as they froze their special moment in time.
Nellie, in disclosing her daughters secret had also told Essentially Sport that while Belize is one of the best-kept secrets in the world, the fact that her daughter was shining a light on Belize was quite meaningful for their family since it was such a big part of their history and even the foundation of who they really are.
The World-renowned Olympic Champion and Gold Medalist have ties to Belize through her biological mother Nellie Cayetano Biles who moved to the US in 1973, where she met her husband Ron Biles, and gave birth to four children, including Simone.
