Placencia is definitely a world away from the crowded tourist island of Ambergris Caye. A laid-back, idyllic fishing community with lots of boutique shops, little cafes, and yoga studios, Placencia is definitely a great destination to relax and chill.

If you’re coming to Placencia, here are five great activities that you can enjoy:

1 – Walk Down “Main Street”

Placencia Village may be home to only 1,000 people, but it’s the proud owner of a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the smallest “main street” in the world. The “street” is actually four-foot-wide pedestrian-only boardwalk lined with colorful murals and quaint shops. Perfect for a lazy stroll or to enjoy some locally made ice cream.

2 – The Beach

The Placencia Peninsula has some of the most beautiful beaches in a country loaded with great beaches. Whether you want some fun in the sun with partyers or prefer to stroll along a secluded stretch of sand, there’s more than enough beach in Placencia for everyone.

3 – Explore the Mangroves

Most people come to Placencia for the beaches on the Caribbean side of the peninsula, but there are some wonderful places to explore on the inland lagoon side, too. With a kayak, anyone can explore this lush wetland scenery. Bring along your snorkel gear too and see if you can spot some of the giant, brightly colored starfish that hang out in this area.

Instead, locals in Placencia harvest seafood that naturally grows offshore in order to make the uniquely Belizean beverage known as a seaweed shake. High in minerals and other good stuff, seaweed shakes also taste good when mixed with a shot of rum.

Twice a day, Mother Nature works her magic in Placencia, bathing the peninsula with the glorious sight of the sun either rising or dipping beneath the horizon.
