After four straight months of contraction in tourism arrivals, the Belize Tourism Board says the coming high season is shaping up to be a strong one.
Director of Tourism Evan Tillett said bookings are already coming in. “We have seen the bookings and it seems to be a very robust high season, so we are hoping to make up back some ground,” he said.
Tillett acknowledged that the industry’s recent performance has fallen short. “The softness that we have seen and the performance of the industry is not where we want it to be,” he said, pointing to geopolitical headwinds affecting travel. Even so, he said Belize is “still holding its own.”
To get growth back on track, Tillett said the BTB will keep pushing on three fronts: marketing, developing new air routes and working closely with the private sector. “It has to be a collaborative effort for us to continue growth in the tourism sector,” he said.
The outlook comes on the heels of the confirmed Discover Airlines route from Frankfurt, set to launch in December 2027, which the BTB sees as a key step in growing arrivals from Europe.
