It’s official. Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, has released full details of its new service from Frankfurt to Belize City, launching in December 2027.
The German carrier will fly to San José, Costa Rica, six times a week, with two of those weekly flights continuing on to Belize City. The return leg will fly direct from Belize to Frankfurt.
Both destinations will be served by the airline’s Airbus A350, a wide body aircraft joining the Discover fleet in 2027 to expand its long haul network. Costa Rica and Belize are the airline’s first destinations in Central America.
Director of Tourism Evan Tillett said the route marks a major milestone for the country. “It allows you to get from Europe to Belize in a day, and I think that is a significant step forward for Belize,” he said.
Tillett credited years of behind the scenes work for securing the service and said it reflects confidence in Belize as a destination. He described the lack of European air access as the “Achilles’ heel for real growth from Europe.”
With the route confirmed, Tillett said the focus now shifts to marketing, with the public and private sectors working together to grow arrivals and continue diversifying the European market.
For European travelers, the new service means fewer connections and a smoother path to Belize’s reef, rainforest and ancient Maya sites starting in late 2027.
