The 19th annual Belize Archaeology Symposium (BAS) will take place from June 26-28, 2024, under the theme “Sustainable Legacies: Exploring Ancient Maya Environmental Adaptations and Resilience.”
Hosted by the Institute of Archaeology, a division of the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology and the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, the BAS is recognized as a leading source for current archaeological information in Belize.
This year’s symposium will focus on the advanced environmental practices of the ancient Maya, examining their remarkable adaptations and resilience in the face of environmental challenges. Since its inception in 2003, the BAS has served as a vital platform for promoting research in various archaeological areas, including Maya, Colonial, Underwater, and cave archaeology.
The event will feature presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities for archaeologists, historians, researchers, and anyone interested in the ancient Maya civilization and its relevance to sustainable living today.
