Visiting Caye Caulker, Belize? Make Sure You Check Out Weyu Boutique Hotel
Caye Caulker has long been known as the “cool” island. Located close to both Belize City and the heavily touristed island of Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker has always chosen to follow its own path. Once the exclusive haunt of backpackers, the island is now home to lovely boutique hotels like We’Yu.
In the local Garifuna language, “We’Yu” means “sun.” And since the resort is perfectly situated to catch both the sunrise and sunset over the Caribbean, the name fits perfectly. We’Yu features lovely rooms and a penthouse suite and are available at very affordable rates. Located just steps from the famous Koko King Beach, We’Yu is also home to one of the finest restaurants/lounges on the island which hosts Full Moon Parties complete with live music every month. We’Yu also has its own freshwater swimming pool and high-speed wireless internet are provided free to guests.
Privately operated water taxis arrive at the resort every 30 minutes between 6:45 a.m. and midnight daily from Caye Caulker Village, making it extremely easy to get to the We’Yu Boutique Hotel.
Caye Caulker is located just 20 miles (32 kilometers) offshore of Belize City and the journey takes about 45 minutes. Service to other nearby islands is also frequent, and there is an airstrip on Caye Caulker with flights provided by both Tropic Air and Maya Island Air.
Caye Caulker is home to some 2,000 people and measures just five miles (eight kilometers) north to south and less than a mile (kilometer) from east to west. Popular with divers and snorkelers, there is a shallow lagoon on the west side of the island known as Giant Cave. And thanks to steady trade winds, windsurfing is also a popular activity on the island. Every year in June, Caye Caulker holds a long-running Lobsterfest to celebrate the opening of the lobster fishing season.
Belize has received positive coverage from all of the top travel publications lately, including National Geographic and Lonely Planet. Airlines and travel experts have taken note of Belize’s rising popularity, and Southwest, WestJet, Air Canada, and Sun Country Airlines have all added new non-stop flights to Belize from major cities such as Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Calgary, Toronto, and Minneapolis. Last month, Aeromexico, the flag carrier of Mexico, began flying to Belize from Mexico City, making it easier than ever for travelers in the region to include Belize as part of their itinerary.
If you’re headed to Caye Caulker on your next Belize vacation, be sure to stay at the We’Yu Boutique Hotel.
