“Ring of Fire” Solar Eclipse to Illuminate Belize’s Sky

Tens of millions across the Americas, including Belize, are set to witness a rare celestial event this Saturday as the “ring of fire” solar eclipse takes center stage. NASA has confirmed that the phenomenon, known as an annular solar eclipse, will see the moon obscure all but the sun’s outer rim, creating a stunning ring-like appearance.

This significant event will begin its journey from the North Pacific, cutting across parts of the western U.S. and several Central and South American countries. The eclipse’s path will start in Oregon and move downward, encompassing regions of several states before moving into the Gulf of Mexico. Thereafter, it will journey through Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, and other Central and South American nations before concluding over the Atlantic.

For Belize and its neighboring countries, the eclipse promises a short-lived but captivating spectacle. The “ring of fire” will only last between three to five minutes, depending on one’s location. However, the entire eclipse, from its onset to its conclusion, will stretch for 2 1/2 to three hours.

Residents eager to experience this celestial event are reminded to ensure their safety. NASA’s Alex Lockwood, a planetary scientist, emphasized the importance of using certified solar eclipse glasses. Standard sunglasses won’t suffice to prevent potential eye damage.
