Air Canada increases flights to Belize
Getting out of the freezing cold is easier than ever this winter with Air Canada. Starting on December 13, 2019, Air Canada is increasing the number of direct flights to Belize. The extra flights will be happening on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of every week between December and April.
The direct flights began in 2017 from Toronto, and Canada is now responsible for around seven percent of all tourists in Belize. This makes it the third-largest in terms of where visitors to Belize come from.
The Belize Tourism Board has been actively marketing in Canada in order to increase this number further. WestJet is another Canadian airline that offers direct flights to Belize from Toronto and Calgary.
When you take a flight from Canada to Belize, you will fly into Belize City. If you take another short, 40-minute flight out of Belize City with Tropic Air, you will arrive at the Placencia Peninsula.
Here, you will find the relaxing and beautiful Mariposa Beach Resort. Owned by a Canadian couple, Mariposa Beach Resort is the perfect destination for your winter getaway to Belize.
Canadians who book directly on the Mariposa website will receive 20% off accommodations. All they have to do is to write a comment in the booking form and the Reservations Staff at Mariposa will adjust the rates to reflect the discount. (For more information on this Canadian discount, email firstname.lastname@example.org.)
When you arrive in Placencia, you will be greeted by a Mariposa staff member who will then bring you to the resort. Flying to Placencia is the easiest and shortest way as the drive from Belize City takes about three hours.
Even though you may want to simply lay on the beach and enjoy the warm sun and water after coming from Canada, there is plenty to do and see in Belize. Take a look at ten of the highlighted attractions in Placencia:
1. Visit the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
2. Kayak at Laughing Bird Caye
3. See the native howler monkeys by boating to Monkey River Village
4. Explore ancient Maya ruins
5. Go scuba diving or snorkeling and maybe run into some whale sharks if you visit in March or April
6. Take a fishing charter
