
In a vibrant ceremony at the House of Culture, the theme for this year’s September Celebrations was unveiled as “A Nation Proud and Free: Belize @ 43,” marking the country’s 43rd year of independence.
The winning theme, submitted by David Watson of San Pedro Village, Corozal District, was chosen from a record-breaking 615 submissions, showcasing the enthusiasm and creativity of Belizeans nationwide.
“This theme speaks to the pride and freedom we feel as a nation after 43 years of independence,” said Watson, expressing his hope for a bright future for Belize.
The National Celebrations Commission, led by Minister of Culture Francis Fonseca, emphasized the inclusive nature of the theme selection process, with submissions received from all corners of the country, representing Belize’s diverse population.
“The overwhelming participation reflects the deep-rooted patriotism and unity within our nation,” said Minister Fonseca, who expressed his excitement for the upcoming festivities.
The government has pledged to provide equal funding to all municipalities to ensure the September Celebrations are a truly nationwide affair. With parades, concerts, cultural displays, and more planned across the country, this year’s celebrations promise to be an unforgettable experience for Belizeans and visitors alike.
