Belize Lift All Remaining Restrictions

The Government of Belize has announced that they will be lifting all remaining COVID-19 restrictions in the country effective April 1st, 2022, with the exception of some border requirements which will remain in place for the unvaccinated population.

With the new changes, coming into effect in a couple of hours, here is what you need to know if you are planning to visit the jewel. Firstly if you are vaccinated and can show proof of such then you will be allowed to enter the country without having to undergo any PCR or Rapid Test.

However, if you are not vaccinated and are above the age of 5 years and older, and are entering through the airport, land, or seaport then you will be required to show proof of a negative rapid test taken within (48hrs) or a PCR test taken within (72hrs), to be cleared for entry.

The only other regulations that will remain in place is having to do with unvaccinated Belizeans, who will only be allowed to exit the country for medical purposes and must present valid medical documents. Fully vaccinated Belizeans on the other hand will be allowed to exit through any of the country’s border points without having to abide by any regulations.

All other restrictions, such as social distancing and mandatory mask-wearing indoors and in public have been scrapped. For the first time in over two years bars, rum shops and discos will now be allowed to reopen.

Earlier this week the Minister of Health Kevin Bernard commented, ”As you would know earlier last month it was agreed, where we had removed many restrictions that we would come back on April 1st and then look at the lifting of all, or the main restrictions that have been set out there over the past two years. We initially started out with the Curfew and the outdoor mask mandate, however, in Belize, we have been having a steady decline in cases if you notice the numbers they are hovering between 10 and 20 a day.”

The Minister then went on to explain that after careful consideration the Government decided that, after two years of strict regulations, it was time to move on and simply let the public take personal responsibility for their own safety. Bernard reiterated that while the mask mandate has been scrapped, and is no longer an offense, people can still choose to wear them if they feel the need to do so.

The Ministry of Health has also announced plans to greenlight all major social events such as the National Agriculture and Trade Show, the annual Easter Fair, and even the Caye Caulker Lobster Fest which is being scheduled for July 1-3rd, 2022.
