Want to get in on the revenge travel for the new year but are not sure where to go, then you might want to follow the multitudes who will be rushing to the tiny laid-back island of Caye Caulker, which has recently been named the 12th best places to travel in the world in 2023 by Travel Lemming, a US-based online travel guide.
That’s right the secret is out and is now being circulated among Travel Lemming’s 6 million followers who will now be choosing from their list of 50 destinations that have been dubbed hidden gems and emerging destinations around the world.
Caye Caulker, which has earned a reputation of being a ‘Go Slow’ destination was able to capture travel Lemmings’ attention due to its size, beachfront bars, shark diving experience, and gorgeous tropical scenery, all of which are complemented by the Belize Barrier Reef which sits just off the coast.
The article noted, ‘’With the Belize Coral Reef just off the coast, scuba diving and snorkeling are unmatched. Book an all-day catamaran trip for less than $100 USD, allowing you to swim with eagle rays, pufferfish, and massive swarms of nurse sharks. Year-round, the water is so warm that you won’t even need a wetsuit! You’ll come away from Belize wishing you could live out your days on a tropical island far from the realities of the mainland.’’
The article then went on to brief readers on how to get to Caye Caulker which consists of an hour-long water taxi ride from mainland Belize City. Of course, as all visitors and locals alike would know, a trip to Caye Caulker wouldn’t be complete without a stop in at the famous watering hole known as The Split. Decked with thatch-roof palapas and barstools submerged in crystal-clear water, the article, suggested that ‘’You’ll never enjoy a piña colada more than while waist-deep in the aquamarine sea.’’
Director of Marketing and Communications for the Belize Tourism Board Michelle Bowers Flowers expressed thrill upon hearing of the selection saying, ‘’Caye Caulker offers visitors a wealth of unforgettable island experiences unlike any other, from windsurfing to checking out colorful artisan shops and getting fresh seafood in restaurants, to relaxing at The Split, manatee tours, amazing fishing and of course some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the area. Caye Caulker is also home to our famous saying ‘Go Slow’ as we want our visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and savor all the wonders of this incredible Belizean gem.”
