
Ah, Belize — one of the most easiest places to travel in Central America. It’s got everything you come expect of the region: Mayan ruins, an immense barrier reef, dense jungles rife with wildlife, and bustling metropolises — and the official language is English. But…there also lurks a few deadly threats that you should familiarize yourself with before you put boots on the ground.
Jaguars
Yea, they’re one of the more elusive big cats in the world, typically come out at night, and have been so coveted for their pelt that the country now hosts a dedicated preserve. But they’re present, lurking in the mainland jungles. You won’t hear ‘em until it’s too late. Still, be on the look out because if you do see one, odds are it’s already spotted you. Best bet is to visit Belize’s Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve.
