With winter in the Northern hemisphere making people blue, many are craving a chance to travel to a warm, exotic location. Unfortunately, the pandemic has made it hard to travel. The good news is that beautiful Belize is open to tourists.

Any traveler can visit Belize at this time, though of course, it’s vital, due to Covid-19, to check with official sites for updates. One site visitors can check is this one.

While visitors are permitted to enter the country, there are certain steps they must follow. This helps makes sure that both tourists and the locals are kept safe and healthy.

First, a tourist must download the Belize Health App to their phone. They need to input the required information within 72 hours before they arrive.

All travelers aged 5 and over must take an RT-PCR Covid-19 test no more than 96 hours before their visit and bring along the negative results. Alternatively, they can, within 48 hours of arrival, take a Rapid Antigen, Sophia, SD Bisensor, or ABBOT test.

If a traveler is unable to present the negative results for these tests to health officials upon arriving in Belize, they will be asked to take a Covid-19 test and wait under quarantine for the results.

The test costs US$50.00 and must be paid for with cash. Tourists who test positive will be quarantined at their hotel.

Once travelers enter Belize, they will find that measures have been put in place to ensure that both visitors and residents are protected from catching the coronavirus.

Protocols that have been put in place include:

  • Mandatory wearing of face masks and social distancing in public spaces
  • Restaurants, bars, etc., must restrict the capacity to keep patrons safe
  • A Tourism Gold Standard Program that includes features such as online check-in/out, hand sanitizing stations, and enhanced cleaning procedures.
  • All tourists must stay at a certified Gold Standard hotel. The list of such hotels may be found at this site.

In addition, while tourists are allowed to move freely through the country, a Tourism Safe Corridor is recommended which includes Gold Standard certified hotels, transportation, tour operators, restaurants and gift shops, as well as a variety of attractions. Thanks to the enhanced training that has been implemented for these certified venues, travelers can be assured of the best possible safety standards.

There are many wonderful Gold Standard certified resorts and hotels throughout the country and travelers can stay at more than one during their vacation. This will allow the adventurous tourist to try a variety of the activities for which Belize is known for, from world-class diving and snorkeling to exciting cultural excursions and enticing cuisine.
