
Belize continues to make its name known on the international stage among leading tourism destinations worldwide, and only this week made another major accomplishment by being named in this year’s Wanderlust Travel Awards 2022.
Belize was awarded a Silver medal for being among the Most Desirable Emerging Destinations. This latest international award not only proves that Belize, with its laidback lifestyle, white sandy beaches, sparkling Caribbean waters, extraordinary rainforest, Mayan temples, and diverse marine life continues to hold on to its name as a hidden jewel but is also competing among much bigger and popular tourist destinations across the world.
The latest selection has led the Belize Tourism Board to comment, ‘’we are proud of this remarkable accomplishment for our country.’’ The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, by the world-renowned travel magazine who held its prestigious 21st annual Wanderlust Travel Award. During the event, numerous destinations from across the world were awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze in over ten categories.
Those categories include Most Desirable Country (Europe), Most Desirable Country (Rest of the World), Most Desirable City (Europe), Most Desirable City (Rest of the World), Most Desirable Region (Europe), Most Desirable Region (Rest of World), Most Desirable Island (Europe), Most Desirable Island (Rest of the Word). In the category of Most Desirable Emerging Destination, Georgia snagged the Gold medal, while Belize got the Silver medal and Saudi Arabia the Bronze. Countries such as. Azerbaijan, Panama, Guyana, Greenland, Ethiopia, Bolivia, and Qatar were all named in the same category.
On its website, Wanderlust commented, ‘’This year, we asked you, our globe-trotting readers to tell us the places, people, and travel brands who have captured your imagination and ignited your wanderlust. You voted in your tens of thousands, and now, we’re ready to tell you the results.’’
Belize is known around the world for being a Central American Gem, not only for being just a short plane ride from the United States but also for being the only English-speaking destination in this region, with an exchange rate of two BZ Dollars to one US Dollar.
