Some people would tell you that Caye Caulker is one of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean Sea. And while those people may be technically correct, we’ve been told to convince you to not come. So here are 10 reasons why you should never visit Caye Caulker in Belize!
- The Weather
You might think that living in paradise is a dream, but living in perfect conditions can be tiring. But we guess pleasantly tropical weather that fluctuates between the mid-70s and mid-80s all year long isn’t that bad if you’re just visiting.
- Overwhelming Culinary Options
Lobster and conch are seasonal dishes and some of the most delicious seafood that you’ll pull out of the Caribbean Sea, but they’re just scratching the surface of Caye Caulker’s culinary scene. Between fry jacks, ceviche, and simple but sublime pibil, you’ll find yourself with too many options to choose from.
- The Barrier Reef
The Caribbean Sea’s greatest treasure certainly isn’t overrated, but who trusts ratings anyway? Forget about diving with whale sharks or snorkeling with turtles. You may as well just stay at home.
- The Blue Hole
The same is true of the phenomenon known as the Blue Hole, which is one of the most favored spots in the world for many divers. Break away from the crowd and just ignore it entirely.
- Too Colorful
There’s a reason why Homeowners Associations restrict homes to very limited palettes, but we’re sure there’s a reason for it. That’s what makes us so appalled by the residential areas in Caye Caulker — a mix of bright primary colors and pastels that reflect a different way of living.
- Too Much Sand
Caye Caulker is a tiny island, and that means that wherever you go, you’re likely within easy distance of a beach. There are options whether you’re looking to be sociable or trying to seek out seclusion — but all those options run the risk of getting sand in your shoes.
- Too Accessible
There are daily direct flights to Belize City from multiple major cities in the United States, and from there it’s just a ferry ride to Caye Caulker. What’s the point of traveling to an exotic new locale if it feels like hopping on a domestic flight?
- Too Friendly
The population of Caye Caulker is diverse, but residents are also some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. We don’t trust friendly people, and we don’t think you should either.
- Too Slow
Caye Caulker runs on what’s apparently known as “Island Time”. Unburdened by the modern workday and driven instead by the desire to live a balanced and healthy life in paradise. That can be quite frustrating if you hate the idea of treating yourself to a little relaxation.
- Too Affordable
Caye Caulker has yet to become the breakout international vacation destination — and while some would say that makes it an undiscovered gem, we’d say it makes us suspicious. Regardless, your dollar can go further when you come to Belize City
