Travel professional flock to Belize for BETEX Travel Expo
Betex – Belize’s Signature Trade Show
Travel industry professionals from all over the world are getting ready for the Belize Tourism EXPO (BETEX), Belize’s signature tourism trade show.
The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) officially announced that the event will be held in Belize City from May 3-5. The event starts off with an opening night, where participants will have the opportunity to break the ice and meet in a more social setting, before heading into scheduled appointments for the following two days.
The bi-annual event will gather more than 300 registered participants, and give them the opportunity to showcase the very best in Belizean accommodations and products to international buyers, from places such as the United States, Europe, and South America.
Wholesalers, travel agents, group travel organizers, corporate travel buyers, event planners, conference organizers, online travel companies and airlines, will get the opportunity to have one-on-one sessions with some of the country’s award winning hotels and tour operators.
For those who want to immerse themselves further in the Belizean experience before making a decision, they can participate in familiarization trips, which will be held from May 5-8. During the post session tours, buyers will get to travel to Belize’s pristine jungles, majestic beaches, and other popular destinations, for a first hand look at the many glorious sights, sounds, and tastes that Belize has to offer.
Gayle Ozaeta, BETEX event and marketing manager, explained that the main focus of the event is the networking opportunity that both the local and international participants have. The BTIA will act as a hub for contact information, so participants and buyers will have the opportunity to communicate and conduct business, even if they didn’t get the opportunity during the expo.
BETEX has been running since 1996, and has become one of the largest calendar events for the years they’ve been held. With Belize’s increasing popularity at the international level, more travelers are starting to seek out the country’s unique tourism experience.
As a tourism destination Belize’s popularity has increased considerably over the last decade. In 2016, the country received four nominations in the World Travel Awards’ World Category. World’s Leading Beach Destination: Placencia; World’s Leading Destination: Ambergris Caye; World’s Leading Dive Destination and World’s Leading Green Destination.
Noticing the rising international interest, many airlines have already began making Belize more accessible to their customers. Between 2014 and 2016, three airlines: WestJet, Southwwest, and COPA Airlines, all announced that they wood begin offering flights to Belize.
BETEX will give even more supplies a chance to make this rising star in the tourism world more accessible to their customers.
